Doorstep Services
Last updated: [DATE]
Doorstep Services (“we”, “us”) collects personal information about you when you book with us. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it.
We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and its Information Privacy Principles.
1. Who we are
We are the “agency” responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
2. What we collect
When you book
- Your name, email address and mobile number
- The address you are moving out of
- The address you are moving to
- Your moving date, and the dates of any services you book
- Anything you tell us in the notes field — access, parking, pets, a difficult driveway, a locked gate
- Whether you are renting or buying, if you tell us
When we do work for you
- A record of what we did, at which property, and when
- Notes about the property that help us do a better job next time — where to park, that the back gate sticks, that the south wall goes green in winter
- Photos, if you send them to us (for example, a photo of a junk pile so we can quote it)
This record stays attached to the property, and to you for as long as you live there. You can see all of it in your account.
Automatically
- Your IP address when you create an account or accept our terms
- Standard web log information
- Cookies that keep you logged in
What we do not collect
We do not store your payment card details. If you pay by card, that is handled by our payment provider, and the card number never reaches us.
3. Why we collect it
| Purpose | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Doing the job | To turn up at the right house, on the right day, prepared for what is there |
| Contacting you | To confirm times, quote a price, and tell you if something changes |
| The property record | So that next time, we know what we are walking into — and so you can see what we have done |
| Invoicing and tax | Because we are legally required to keep records |
| Marketing | Only if you have specifically opted in. See section 5. |
If you do not give us this information, we usually cannot do the work — we cannot clean a house without knowing where it is.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your information. We do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. Ever.
We share it only where we have to:
- With a tradesperson, if you have asked us to arrange work we do not do ourselves — and then only the details they need for that job (your name, the address, your phone number, and what needs doing). Never your whole history.
- With the providers who run our website, email, and payments. They process it on our instructions and cannot use it for their own purposes.
- Where the law requires it — a court order, a legal obligation, or to protect somebody from serious harm.
Some of our providers may store data overseas. Where they do, we take reasonable steps to make sure your information is protected to a standard comparable to the Privacy Act.
5. Marketing
We will only send you marketing texts or emails if you have specifically opted in.
That is a separate tick box when you register. It is optional. Nothing about our service changes if you leave it unticked, and we do not treat you differently.
If you have opted in, you can opt out at any time:
- Reply STOP to any text
- Click unsubscribe in any email
- Email us at [EMAIL] and ask
We act on opt-outs immediately.
Messages about a job you have actually booked — confirming a time, telling you we are running late, sending an invoice — are not marketing, and you will receive those regardless.
6. How we look after it
We know exactly what we hold: a list of addresses, move dates, and houses that will be empty on a known day. That is precisely the information that would be valuable to the wrong person, and we treat it that way.
- The website runs over an encrypted connection (HTTPS)
- Access is limited to the people who need it to do the work
- Passwords are stored hashed. Nobody here can read yours — including us. If you forget it, we can only reset it, not tell you what it was.
- We do not keep customer lists on personal devices or in shared spreadsheets
No system is perfect. If something goes wrong and your information is affected, we will tell you, and we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner where the law requires it.
7. How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Your account | While you are a customer |
| The property record and job history | 7 years after your last job |
| Invoices and financial records | 7 years (required by tax law) |
| Marketing consent (and withdrawal) | While you are a customer, plus 7 years |
Seven years is what our tax obligations require. After that, we delete it or make it anonymous.
If you ask us to delete your account sooner, we will — except for the records we are legally required to keep.
8. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020, you can ask us:
- What personal information we hold about you (an access request)
- To correct anything that is wrong (a correction request)
Just ask. We do not charge for it, and we will respond within 20 working days, which is what the Act requires.
You can also:
- Log in and see it yourself. Your account shows your bookings, your property, and everything we have done there. That is deliberate — it is your house’s record, and you should be able to see it without asking us.
- Withdraw marketing consent at any time
- Ask us to delete your account
9. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first. You will be talking to the person who runs the business, not a call centre. Most things get sorted quickly.

10. Cookies
We use cookies to keep you logged in and to keep the site working.
We do not use them to follow you around the internet, and we do not run third-party advertising trackers.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. If we change it materially, we will tell you. The current version is always on this page.
